The old district of Vitoria-Gasteiz still conserves numerous remains of its mediaeval past. The continued Gothic presence in numerous buildings was fundamental in it being declared a Historic Site in 1997.
"La Almendra" market
On the first Saturday of each month, the Old District hosts a market with the participation of 180 sellers from the area, who set up on the street to exhibit their products. The fair also includes different leisure activities. A tapas route is also organised. We propose you go around the bars enjoying a tapa and a drink for one euro.
The shops of the Mediaeval District
The lovely shops of the Mediaeval District will help you to discover the wonderful work of our art artisans. Here you will find wooden objects such as the traditional kutxas (chests, in Basque) and musical instruments sculpted with great detail, along with silverwork and traditional Basque ceramics. You can also acquire the famous Fournier cards and antiques of unique beauty. If you have a taste for gastronomy, in the food shops you will find select products with Denomination of Origin, such as Rioja Alavesa wine, Idiazabal chees and Txakoli.
