A 13th century sculpture by Santiago Peregrino and a St. Francis painted by El Greco are some of the jewels of the San Sebastian diocese collection.
Paintings, sculptures and gold and silver work make up the Donostia-San Sebastian Diocese religious art collection, which is on display in the building of Amara Holy Family.
The collection was started by Manuel Lekuona and José María Zunzunegui, who went through filing rooms and sacristies in churches, hermitages, convents and parish houses, in his search for works worthy of public display and enjoyment. The work has allowed us to recover the collective history, applying conservation and restoration treatments to pieces to show the history of the Basque people from their religious faith. The Diocese Museum collection for Oteiza and Chillida is ordered chronologically, from the Middle Ages through to the 20th century.
