How to get there? View on MapIn the small town of Villanañe, in La Cuadrilla de Añana, you will find a beautiful example of mediaeval civil architecture: The Tower Palace of Los Varona, the best conserved fortified site in the territory.
The site comprises a tower (14th-15th centuries) with constructions for look-outs (sentry boxes) and to fire canyons (embrasures), along with a palace without any defensive elements. Guided visits are available.
The tower is a square shaped, with sides of around 10 m, comprising a ground floor, three levels and a hip roof, and is crowned by battlements. It has two defensive projecting parapets and some lightwells, with two notable twin pointed arch windows carved in three parts. The ground and first floors of the tower are now included in the palace. On the second floor there is a staircase up to the battlements. The staircase is a recent construction, with a modern design. The roof structure is metal.
