The only State museum dealing with the culture of iron is now found in Legazpi, in the famous Valle del Hierro (Iron Valley), given the historic importance of the exploitation and transformation of this material.
Since November 2005, the Basque Iron Museum has been open to the public in Mirandaola park in Legazpi, next to the ironworks of the same name. The museum is in the former San Miguel Ironworks, which can be seen through the presence of some factory equipment such as furnaces and the scales.
Along with them, different objects and interactive media such as computers with touch screens, models and audiovisual displays take the visitor in an entertaining and educational way through fourteen different areas which deal with aspects of the culture of iron, from mythology through to its conquest for humanity and the taking off of Basque industry.
