How to get there? View on MapA land of palaces, villas and manorial houses, Gordexola has a rich architectural heritage. This town has numerous tower houses. They are solid, austere stone constructions, which used to provide defensive functions. The towers of Oxirando and Ibargüen are some of the best conserved buildings.
Many of these tower houses became palaces, once suitably refurbished. Nor can we forget the luxurious mansions of the Indians, who, having amassed a fortune in America, returned to their homes and constructed beautiful villas surrounded by a landscaped area, most notably Villa Cuba and Villa Bilbao.
Moreover, Gordexola has rich religious architecture, proof of which are the churches and hermitages to be found in its different districts. The Church of San Juan, in Molinar district, and the Church of San Nicolás de Bari, in Zaldu, are just some of the most beautiful examples.
With regards to the calendar of festivities, we should mention the fair of San Andrés, celebrated at the end of November. This is one of the most important cattle fairs in the area, a tradition dating back to 1709, and is visited by many people who come to enjoy the event.
