The historic quarter of Pasai Donibane runs parallel to the sea in a single cobbled street. There are numerous palace houses, all dating from before 1800, such as the Platain house, Arizabalo Palace, or Villaviciosa Palace, and the fishermen's houses, with colourful balconies and façades that slope directly into the sea. Finally, it is worth mentioning the bridge-houses that are so present and characteristic of the urban landscape of Pasai Donibane. This type of building is also common in the old quarter of Pasai San Pedro, where the house where the sailor Blas de Lezo was born stands out. It is in this district where the municipality's two museums are located, the eco-active museum ship MATER, and Albaola, Itsas Kultur Faktoria, where the construction of the replica of the whaler San Juan (16th century) is underway.
